For me, the las paragraph of a short news article always seems strange. Like, the writer wanted to let you know, but just couldn't be bothered to tie it in normally or write a conclusion. Take, for example, this article from Discovery news talking about Stephen Hawking wanting to go to Space on the new Virgin space ships in a few years. The article goes on to very briefly descibe Hawking's research and ends with "Hawking has warned that the survival of the human race depends on its ability to find new homes elsewhere in the universe because there's an increasing risk that a disaster will destroy Earth."

wtf? Of all the things you could say about Stephen Hawking in a 300 word article is that he thinks we should move planets? That just makes him sound weird. It's not really a good choice for an ending statement. I see these tangential ending statements a lot and ... it's just really werid to me.
